Just happens to be that in our organization we have yet to come across the right project inside our walls that would propel us into Sharepoint. I am all for the right tools for the right project for the right reasons. So for us the question is what does getting away from a departmental drive bring the organization versus other projects with more concrete and measurable potential gains? Most of the implementations I have seen to date are project oriented where they make a lot of sense across departments.ĭon't get me wrong here. Interestingly, our 'department drives' are pretty well organized and maintained by their respective departments.

We started with Portal back then then I migrated us to 2010 using Quest's Migration software. Single Sign On with AD was one of the biggest draws. We had a separate wiki for a long time but have rolled that in now as well. We have all the bells and whistles and it is our core collaboration platform. We are a highly distributed company which helps a lot with making people see the value. We started wtih it as a demo and it took a while to really catch on, but it did. So 'convincing management' wasn't much of a problem. We were only a handful of people, maybe eight, when it was first implemented. Nah, but we've used SharePoint since 2003 so it wasn't that dramatic of a change, it happened over time. I can only imagine that it gets better as you get bigger.ĭid you have any issues convincing management of the change? We're there growing pains? Why was it such a 'big deal'?

We are so much more organized and prepared to share data across the company. Getting us away from the 'department drives' is a really big deal. We have ~30 users (probably ~50 on SharePoint, actually) and we find the value proposition to be huge. Each year we look at the options for Sharepoint and for an organization of our size (125 employees, local government) with distinct departments we just do not see a compelling reason to jump.
